The Center for the Study of Girls’ Literature (CSGL) offers readers, researchers, and scholars a unique and dedicated platform for the critical study of girls’ literary history. Driven by a mission to combine scholarly production, pedagogical innovation, archival preservation, and reader-focused community activities, our programs and services provide a space where girls’ texts and the people who study them take center stage.
The Center for the Study of Girls’ Literature is dedicated to creating a professional network of international scholars interested in exploring the intersection of women’s literary history, children’s literature, and other relevant fields. Intentionally designed as a hybrid community that prioritizes intellectual inquiry, the CSGL brings together scholars and writers who may otherwise work in academic isolation and provides them with a dedicated space for rigourous engagement with both texts and peers, access to both materials and mentors, and opportunities to grow and learn.
Providing a gateway to equitable pedagogy where educators and students can interrogate, explore, and recommend texts.
Supporting high-level, independent scholarship into girls’ literary history, including both marginalized and problematic texts.
Guiding researchers from initial drafts to public-ready manuscripts with editorial coaching and community-supported feedback.
Open to all. A bi-monthly, facilitated discussion group, exploring issues of girlhood in historical texts.
The CSGL has plans to host exhibitions, talks, and workshops exploring girls’ narratives across history and genres.
In-depth, instructor-led engagement with topics and themes relevant to girls’ literature & literary history
Standalone speaker events and communal learning sessions on unique, focused topics
Community-led, collaborative inquiry groups for deeper exploration of dedicated topics
Feedback sessions and dedicated writing support for independent researchers in need of structure
CSGL strives to meet the dual challange of providing sustained access to primary source materials and preserving the rich legacy of work done by researchers in the field.
Digitizing & preserving collections from senior scholars for future use by researchers
Developing curated lists and search guides for existing digital collections & repositories
Building the Center for the Study of Girls’ Literature is a collective effort to celebrate and engage with a vital part of literary history. As we move from vision to reality, we are inviting scholars, students, and supporters to help shape the future of this organization as it grows.
